Minnesota Bee Keepers

Welcome to nemnbeekeepers.org,

My name is Jay, I’m a bee keeper here in northern minnesota. I’ve been keeping bees for over 20 years now and decided to share some of my (little) wisdom on beekeeping in colder climates.

A lot of people I talk to are surprised that bee keepers exist this far north! But they shouldn’t be. There’s even Canadians bee keepers, so if they can manage so can we!

Anyway. Not to digress too much. I decided to start this website to share bee keeping tips in minnesota and to blog out my personal life.

If you wanna talk bee keeping you can connect with me.

Used Car Dealerships in Toronto: Not Too Shabby

Finding a used car dealership in Toronto

I’ve always thought that car salesmen and mechanics are willing to take advantage of me because I’m a woman. That’s awful, I know. I just feel like the perception is that I must know nothing about cars so how would I know any better if what they’re telling me is true or not? When I was younger, I always asked my dad to come along with me. Once, a mechanic gave me an estimate that seemed a little ridiculous. I showed up with my dad who went through item by item and the guy backed down. Ended up costing me half as much in the end.

I mention this because I was not looking forward to car shopping. I decided to trade in my car for something a little less expensive and I wanted something used. This time, dad wasn’t coming with me. I figure, I’m a grown woman. I need to do this on my own. Plus, my parents were on a cruise so I couldn’t bring my dad along.

While it’s true that I don’t know much about cars, I’m pretty outspoken when it comes to getting answers and I don’t have a problem asking a lot of questions. Like, a lot of questions. I went to a few dealers but ended up finding the most used cars Toronto had to offer in one dealership. It also happened to be the closest one to my house and the last one I went to. I was so frustrated from the rest of my experiences that day that I almost didn’t stop. But I’m so glad I did. I was so impressed with them!

First of all, the salesman was amazing. I think he could tell that I had my guard up because he really took the time to talk with me and answer all of my questions. I never felt pressured or like he was trying to take advantage. They had a lot of information about the previous owner and how he drove the car and they were able to get me a great rate for financing.

If you’d have told me that I would have such a good experience shopping for a used car, I never would have believed you. In fact, I felt so little pressure that I think I would have just gone the used car route the first time had I known it would be so simple! Happy I check reviews on the car dealership on carcanuck.ca before I went; I recommend you do as well.

Happy I have cheap car insurance with no deposit

So Embarrassed! Bumped My Car 🙁

I am so embarrassed! I bumped someone with my car today. I’ve never done it before! I was at a junction and my car stalled, so I panicked. Next thing I know, I’ve rolled it forward too quickly and rear-ended the person in front. I was going from stop, so there wasn’t that much damage done but still – I can’t believe I was so stupid!

There was a bit of a dent and a couple of scratches on theirs, so I pulled over and gave them all my details. In all the worry, I had completely forgotten my insurance details, so I gave them mine and told them I’d check it all later. So not only did I hit their car, I also couldn’t even provide them full information.

They were really nice about it, which surprised me – I guess they could tell it was an accident? Anyway, then I had to go and find the details of my policy. It’s been ages since I bought it, and all I could remember was that it was very cheap car insurance no deposit. Couldn’t remember the deductible, or what it covered, anything like that. I managed to find the contract and things in my folder eventually, and had a quick look through it all – I’m going to have to pay a deductible out of pocket but then they’ll cover the rest, which is a relief. It’s less than I was expecting too, so I guess that’s one good thing?

I’m just worried now that it’ll bump up my fees next time I renew – I’m usually really careful and I’ve never been in an accident before, and I can’t believe I did something so silly. I just get really stressed about holding up traffic, so I probably need to work on that.

On the plus side, at least I had a decent insurance plan – my friend got into a scrape last year and had an absolute nightmare trying to get it all sorted because their insurance was really awkward. And they’d paid a deposit too, so I don’t even know why! It’s going to be a while before it’s all sorted out properly, but at least the person I bumped was nice and understanding, so that should make the whole thing easier. If you’re in the market for some good no deposit car insurance I recommend verycheapcarinsurancenodeposit.com, or http://verycheapcarinsurancenodeposit.net/ to find who has the cheapest auto insurance.

He’s All Grown Up (And Has A Car!)

Had to share this!

Today was the big day – we gave our son a car. Not something super expensive, just something nice and practical for him to learn and use when he needs. I want him to see this as a responsibility rather than a gift though, so there’s two things he has to do before he can start driving it. Firstly, he needs to spend a bit of time with me learning some basic maintenance. Secondly, he needs to sit down with me and my wife and go through insurance policies.

My wife and I spent a bit of time discussing what to do about his insurance, and we came to a decision. We’re going to pay half of it, and he can pay half, but he has to help us decide which one to have so he understands the process of it, as well as what his policy actually covers. Finding who has the cheapest auto insurance is just one part of the battle, the next part is finding the right insurance.

He’s quite happily agreed to this – he doesn’t actually know all that much about how insurance works, so this seems like a good chance to give him a bit of a crash course. We’re going to look through a couple of the main differences with him. The main factors are monthly cost, deposit and deductible. Me and my wife have difference preferences here – I prefer paying a deposit upfront for a lower monthly cost, and she prefers very cheap car insurance, no deposit. My way tends to lead to lower deductibles but more money each month, and hers the opposite. Then again, she’s a much better driver than me!

We’re going to try to do our best not to bias him either way, so we’re going to just present the options, the differences and then get him to talk us through his thoughts. We’ve already agreed that if he does want to go for one with a deposit, we’ll pay half (but we’re not going to tell him that upfront), and if he doesn’t, we’ll put that amount of money aside for him in case of accidents.

There’s a slight chance that we’ve made a bet on whose way is better – so if he goes for very cheap car insurance with no deposit, I owe her and vice versa. Here’s hoping he goes my way!
